Simu Liu Finally Breaks Silence on His Future as Shang-Chi After Avengers: Doomsday
It’s been four years since Simu Liu first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Shang-Chi, and the wait to see him return has been worth it. The actor is set to appear alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, and fans can’t stop talking about what’s next for him in the MCU.

In a new interview with ComicBook, Liu opened up about his future as Shang-Chi and what it was like working with some of Marvel’s biggest stars. When asked about his plans after Avengers: Doomsday, Liu didn’t hesitate to share his passion for continuing the role.
“I would keep doing [Shang-Chi sequels] as long as I physically could,” he said.

Liu also talked about how surreal it felt to act alongside MCU legends who’ve been playing their roles for over two decades.
“I was just in this huge Marvel movie with a lot of these actors, some of whom have been playing the same role for like 20 years,” Liu shared. “And I’m stepping into their world. I’m stepping into their characters, who they’ve owned and developed for so long.”
Despite being nervous, the 36-year-old actor admitted that he focuses on giving his best performance rather than letting self-doubt take over.
“It’s everything I can do just to stop myself from shaking,” he confessed. “But what keeps me grounded is reminding myself to just show up and try my best. Get something usable in there and get out of your own way. I think sometimes we use insecurity as an excuse not to show up.”
Liu’s Powerful Message About Staying Focused
Liu also shared a grounded perspective on long-term success and dedication, clearly inspired by his veteran co-stars.
“If we can stop making it about ourselves for a second and just focus on the work — the character, the objective — then you take it one step at a time,” he said. “Hopefully, if you keep doing it for 40 years, someone will look at you and say, ‘Holy crap, what I’d give to do work like that.’”
His words struck a chord with fans online, many praising Liu’s humility and motivation amid the massive pressure of joining Marvel’s biggest crossover.
